Prof. Aline Remael has extensive expertise in training and research in audiovisual translation (AVT) with a focus on various forms of subtitling, including live subtitling with speech recognition, and media accessibility, with interpreting, especially video link interpreting/community interpreting, as a secondary research domain. She has published extensively in both fields, is the co-author, with Jorge Díaz Cintas, of the seminal handbook “Audiovisual Translation: Subtitling” (2007), which is used worldwide, and is currently involved in two Erasmus + Projects: Accessible Culture and Training (ACT, led by the Autonomous University of Barcelona) and Audio Description: a Laboratory for the Development of a New Professional Profile (ADLAB PRO, led by the University of Trieste).

Especially relevant for the current project is the empirical research experience that Aline Remael developed through her previous research into intralingual live subtitling with speech recognition, carried out in collaboration with the Flemish public broadcaster VRT (which is a partner in this application) and a pilot project in interlingual live subtitling with speech recognition, carried out in collaboration with her colleague Dr. Isabelle Robert and the Flemish commercial broadcaster VTM (which is an associated partner in this application). In addition, she has much experience in project and PhD supervision and has developed effective management skills as well as experience in curriculum design in her current function as Head of Department.
